About this policy
Wick (“we”, “us”) is a private venture capital firm. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, what we do with it and the choices you have. It covers this website (the “Site”), our investment work and any other dealings you have with us (together, our “Services”).
The short version is that we don’t sell personal information, and we only use what you share with us for our investment work and to meet our legal obligations.
Information we collect
Most of the information we hold comes directly from you. That includes your name and contact details, the materials you send us about your company (pitch decks, financial statements, cap tables and the like), and the emails, messages and meeting notes that come out of our conversations.
When you visit the Site, our hosting and analytics providers may record technical details such as your IP address, browser, operating system, the page that referred you and the pages you view. Some of this is collected with cookies, which our Cookie Policy explains.
We also learn about people from other sources. These include co-investors, our portfolio companies, whoever introduced you to us, professional networks, public records and commercial databases that track private companies.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- review potential investments, carry out due diligence and document the deals we make;
- help our portfolio companies, for example by introducing them to customers, candidates or other investors;
- keep in touch with you about investments and existing relationships;
- run the Site and keep it secure;
- meet our legal obligations, including identity checks, anti-money-laundering rules and sanctions and export-control screening; and
- protect our rights and the rights of others.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don’t publish materials that founders send us. We do share personal information in a few situations:
- with companies that provide services to us, such as hosting, email and analytics, under confidentiality terms;
- with our lawyers, accountants and other advisors;
- with co-investors or portfolio companies when it is relevant to a deal or an introduction, which you will usually know about;
- with authorities when the law requires it, or when we need to protect someone’s rights or safety;
- with a buyer or successor if all or part of our business is reorganized, merged or sold; and
- with anyone else you ask us to share it with.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, though, and we can’t guarantee that yours will never be accessed without permission.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes above. In practice that often means keeping records of companies we looked at but did not invest in, and holding some records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted or object to how we use it. To make a request, contact us through whatever channel you already use with us. We won’t treat you differently for doing so.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Our Cookie Policy has more detail.
International transfers
We and our service providers store and process information in the United States and other countries. Data protection law in those places may differ from the law where you live.
Children
Our Services are not meant for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Links to other sites
The Site may link to other websites, including those of our portfolio companies. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
